Thriving Women Thursday

Updated: Mar 26

It's Women HerStory Month at Strong Attitudes Supporting Sistahs, Inc. The team at S.A.S.S. Inc. felt that to pay homage to the great dynamic Sheros that paved the way for us to be the bold Queens that we are; it was important to highlight the Sheros in our community, strong, audacious black Queens that like our mission use their platforms to empower and uplift the black women they serve. They are Doulas, Teachers, Psychiatrists, and Thriving Black Mothers, and each Thursday for Thriving Women Thursday we're going to share HerStory.

Meet Shero Sydney Wilson from Hyattsville, MD, Founder of FromSydwithLove. Sydney is a Master's level Social Worker, full spectrum Doula, and a Certified Childbirth Educator. FromSydwithLove offers virtual doula support, virtual childbirth education classes, self-paced breastfeeding 101 courses, and a Social Worker Doula program for Social Workers who are interested in growing their profession through childbirth work. Sydney empowers black women by using her platform to educate her audience and the mothers she serves about childbirth and to advocate for black women's wellness, better treatment, and representation of black women in the health care system.

While it can be challenging to fight against stigmas society's perspective that doulas are necessary and in spite of communities deeming doulas as only a rich person's thing, Sydney continues to educate those new to the doula community about the benefits of doula support throughout one's pregnancy and the ongoing support from the doula community as you grow through parenthood. Sydney helps the new mom and/ her family to understand the investment, much like the new baby, the family is making not only to be well informed about childbirth but assuring the family has a motherhood tribe to learn from and grow with throughout their parenthood journey. Being a first-time parent and coming from a background of working with children and families, Sydney's reliability gives the new family a sense of comfort, a different perspective on parenting, and a new outlook on childbirth that enables her to have a stronger connection with her families.

Outside of her platform, Sydney is the co-host of the Ari and Sydney Show, a podcast with two forever friends sharing about their long-term friendship, sisterhood, and other shi*t they care about. Not only does the podcast celebrate friendship but Sydney and Ari use their podcast to bring awareness to issues that affect black women. Now streaming on Spotify, Apple, and other podcast platforms. Learn more about Sydney at, follow her on Instagram and Facebook @fromsydwithlove and each week listen and/or watch The Ari and Syd Show on Spotify, Apply, and Youtube.

To Sydney, thank you for your passion to educate your community about childbirth and being a pillar of support for black mothers. This Women's HerStory Month, we salute you for your bravery to advocate for black mothers to be empowered and uplifted despite society's history to keep black mothers disenfranchised. Thank you for being our Shero, Happy Women's History Month.
